The EMT 5500 automatically adjusts its monitoring algorithm based on the state of a target.
If a ping response from an individual target is not
received within the time expected there will
immediately be a follow-up persistent ping for a configurable number of retries before the target
is considered non-responsive. The standard poll interval, number of polls per interval, and poll
response timeout are configurable.
With the EMT 5500 a user establishes the performance criteria used to monitor IP targets in an
enterprise. The user can set that criteria so it
matches the expected performance in the network.
Whether it is a satellite-based network, target sites distributed across the Internet, or targets
on a local LAN the EMT 5500 can monitor them all.
The IP target states are:
Up - A healthy target
Pinging - The target is in the process of being pinged, but is assumed to be Up
Suspect - The target has recently failed to reply to a ping and is now questionable
Scan - The target is in the process of being pinged, but is assumed to be Suspect
Down - The target has recently failed multiple ping requests and is now down
HardDown - The target has failed multiple ping requests and has been down for a while
